Spirulina – the rich green substance is currently conquering the market and is either used enthusiastically or viewed suspiciously. Why is it so effective?

It is supposed to be a product with a unique combination of nutrients.

In the following article, we take a closer look at the dark green Spirulina. Why do dogs profit so much on spirulina?

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a microscopic alga in the form of a spiral. It contains a remarkable concentration of nutrients found in hardly any known natural substance.

It is also a very high-protein substance and contains over 60% of all digestible plant proteins. It contains a very high concentration of beta-carotene, B vitamins 1,2 and 3, iron and trace elements. In addition, the rare essential fatty acid GLA (gamma linolenic acid) is found in the algae – this sounds very good.

Spirulina for the starvation?

Spirulina is not simply an alga – there are up to 35 species classified.

Interestingly enough, spirulina was described by the WHO as the “best food of the future” as early as 1974. The United Nations goes one step further and has founded an organization to fight global hunger with the help of the microalgae.

Blue-green algae?

Spirulina is actually a type of bacteria called cyanobacterium and belongs to the group of blue-green algae. Research shows that more than three billion years ago cyanobacteria existed on the earth, which was still uninhabited at that time.

The reason for its “survival” was the ability to produce their own nourishment like a plant through photosynthesis. Chlorophyll enabled the plant to do this. This ensured the survival of the blue-green algae that existed on earth alone for millions of years.

Spirulina is a nutrient-rich powerhouse consisting of more than 50 percent proteins. It is also packed with chlorophyll. It is a dense source of vitamins, minerals, amino and omega-3 fatty acids, enzymes and trace elements.

Spirulina contains a number of unique phytonutrients such as phycocyanin, polysaccharides, and sulfolipids. These substances have been shown to strengthen the immune system and potentially reduce the risk of infection, cancer and autoimmune diseases.

Spirulina is rich in natural carotenoid antioxidants that promote cell health and reduce the risk of cancer. It has a purifying chlorophyll that helps detoxify the organism from the constantly present pollution.

How to Use it

Both test tube studies and animal-based research indicate that spirulina can be helpful for:

  • Strengthening the immune system
  • Improvement of gastrointestinal health
  • Support for detoxification
  • Reduction of the cancer rate
  • Help with allergies

Studies confirm that spirulina improves the function of the immune system. Medical scientists discovered that it not only stimulates the immune system but also improves the ability to form new blood cells. Important parts of the immune system – bone marrow stem cells, macrophages, T-cells and natural killer cells, spleen, and thymus – show increased activity.

Scientists observe that the number of macrophages (unicellular cells of the immune system) increases, is activated and kills germs more effectively. Since spirulina increases disease resistance in animals even in very small doses, the feed industry is investigating its use as a new probiotic to help replace overdosed antibiotics in animal feeds.

First of all: So far these have been small studies, large-scale studies are still pending. However, the enormously high nutrient content of the algae species has been proven beyond doubt.

Spirulina for Dogs – Application Examples

A stressed immune system leads to reactions: The organism uses the metabolic energy of the body. Dogs with an imbalance of the immune system often feel chronically tired and low in energy.

Small amounts of spirulina may help to balance and stabilize the immune system and release more metabolic energy for vitality, healing, and absorption of nutrients.

Spirulina improves the cellular communication process of the body and its ability to read and repair DNA, as a kind of cellular tuning.

Scientists around the world are currently researching how and why spirulina is so effective for human and animal health. Hundreds of published scientific studies show how spirulina and its unique phytonutrients strengthen the immune system and improve health.

Spirulina can improve gastrointestinal and digestive health. Previous research has shown that spirulina promotes digestion and intestinal function.

In general, it suppresses bad bacteria such as E-Coli and Candida yeast. It also stimulates useful flora such as lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. A healthy gut is the basis for good health and increases the absorption of nutrients.

Spirulina is at the forefront of scientific research as cancer prevention. The alga has a proven anti-cancer effect in animal experiments. Spirulina stimulates natural killer cells and similar anti-immune components of the immune system that can help fight cancer cells.

Studies also show that spirulina polysaccharides can help repair genetic material damaged by toxins or radiation.

A study by Oregon State University, in which experimental animals were exposed to a potentially carcinogenic substance, found that animals that received chlorophyll supplementation prior to exposure developed far fewer tumors than animals that were not given the supplementation.

The researchers believe that chlorophyll could reduce the risk of skin, stomach, intestinal and liver cancer.

Dosage and Use

Add the vitamin and mineral supplement in any food you feed your dog;
